Worker burned by molten material at Magna copper smelter

A 47-year-old man was burned Tuesday by molten material at the Utah Kennecott Copper smelter in Magna.
Unified Fire Authority Battalion Chief Clint Smith said early reports indicate the man was using compressed air to blow out a furnace when he hit a patch of molten metal and it splashed back at him.
“He was burned while performing a routine task on a furnace at the copper smelter,” said Jana Kettering, a spokeswoman for Kennecott.
The man was hit on the legs, arms, shoulder and face.
