Vernal teacher to spend up to life in prison for sex with student

A former Vernal Junior High School social studies and drama teacher was sentenced to prison for up to life Wednesday for having sex last year with a 14-year-old female student.
Norman Ray Bernard, 58, pleaded guilty earlier this year to first-degree felony attempted aggravated sex abuse of a child and first-degree felony forcible sodomy in 8th District Court. As part of a plea deal with prosecutors, 13 other felonies were dismissed.
