Standoff between SWAT, armed escapee continues into Saturday

That standoff between Salt Lake City SWAT officers and a robbery suspect who claimed to have hostage continued Saturday morning inside a west Salt Lake City hotel.
Police earlier threw a cell phone into the barricaded room at the Allstar Travel Motor Hotels at 754 W. North Temple, but the suspect — Idaho prison escapee Joe Dee Stang — continues to refuse to surrender.
Police suspect Stang, a 45-year-old convicted burglar, may have been involved in a Thursday robbery of a Utah Zions Bank branch.
