Man holds hostage in Salt Lake City standoff with in police

A man police believe to be a robbery suspect took a hostage and barricaded himself in a west Salt Lake City hotel Friday night.
Police have evacuated the area around the Allstar Travel Motor Hotel at 754 W. North Temple and are negotiating with the man, believed to be Joe Dee Stang, an Idaho inmate who escaped from a work-release program in early July.
The people who had been evacuated were hanging out near the Pizza Hut at 800 West North Temple, watching the action.
